Black Magic Charcoal Soap

Creating a black soap bar with Goat’s milk soap base and activated charcoal is a fun and unique DIY project. Inspired by the Practical Magic movie, we tried to recreate the Practical Magic Black Soap that the witches used. Activated charcoal is often used in skincare products for its potential detoxifying and purifying properties. Here’s a simple recipe to make your own Black Magic soap bars:

Cut the Goat’s milk soap base into small chunks. The size of the chunks depends on the amount of soap you want to make. Estimate one chunk per soap bar. Place the soap chunks into a microwave-safe bowl or double boiler. Heat in the microwave in 20-30 seconds intervals, stirring between each, until the soap is completely melted. Be careful not to overheat it.

Once the soap base is melted, stir in the Sweet Almond oil first then add in the activated charcoal powder. Start with a small amount (about 1/2 to 1 teaspoon charcoal powder) and mix well. Adjust the amount to get the color you want for a darker or lighter soap.

Add a few drops of your chosen essential oil to the melted soap base for fragrance. Stir well to evenly distribute the scent. Pour the black soap mixture into your soap mold. Let the soap cool partially then start decorating with your dried botanicals. We prefer a combination of Calendula, Lavender, Sage, and Rose Petals to the soap so it pops on the black soap bar.

Lightly press the florals to the soap so they get embedded in. Add your desired amount of botanicals until you fill the entire soap. Allow the soap to cool and harden in the mold for several hours or overnight. Once the soap bars are completely hardened, carefully remove them from the mold and start slicing them. Store them in an airtight container or wrap them in plastic wrap to prevent moisture from affecting them.

Your Practical Magic black soap is ready to use! It is a great addition to your skincare routine, thanks to the cleansing properties of charcoal and the moisturizing benefits of Goat’s milk. Be sure to perform a patch test on your skin to ensure there is no adverse reaction before using them regularly.
